Lee Dong Wook “For My Dear” Asia Tour Singapore – 15 Apr 2017

The fan meet took on a “generic” format of Q&A, Games & Interaction Segment, and some singing. The Q&A got a little boring, but luckily Dong Wook oppa’s fans saved the day in the games segment! They are such a sporting and fun bunch that you can’t help but to applaud & cheer them on.

Lee Dong Wook is someone who is more shy and reserved and would need more time to warm up. The interview segment got a little dry and “cold” at times, despite the host’s effort to liven up the atmosphere.

Thanks to his fans who saved the day, the 2-hour fan meet was much more fun and enjoyable towards the games segment.

Somehow, the chemistry between the host and him wasn’t really there. He didn’t seem to “catch the ball” or would throw the ball back, thus it was a little 冷 at times. He was decked in a white shirt, which made him look even fairer due to his snow-white complexion.

There were some videos of Lee Dong Wook in his earlier dramas like “Scent of a Woman”. Well, everyone has a past and it does make it a little embarrassing for him to view his old clips. It goes to show he has come a long way, from those 青涩 days to how he could even look so beautiful when he shed tears in “Goblin”.

This drama has indeed “revived” the popularity of both Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook. Their chemistry is so good that their “Bromance” seems to overtake their romance portion in the drama.

Dong Wook oppa mentioned that every scene is memorable to him in Goblin since it is such a well loved drama. However, he specifically singled out his kiss scene with Sunny in the drama.

Yes, that heart thumping scene in the Goblin’s last episode that got many fans swooning away. He gleefully expressed that he contributed to the making of that iconic kiss scene. Since Sunny and Wang Yeo had no happy scenes in the drama, he requested to add a more cheery scene, so that it could be more of a happy ending for the 2 characters.

If the audience paid close enough attention (which I did), we would notice that Wang Yeo kissed Sunny first, but it was her who pulled him in to kiss her a second time.

He was a little upset that the audience could not see her pulling him in for the kiss as her hands were covered by his face.

No worries, Oppa. We really saw it, at least in the NG scenes.

He also reiterated that the kiss scene was filmed at 5 am when they were all so tired. However, they had a lot of fun filming that ad lid scene with many NGs.

He felt that there were similarities in all his characters that fit his personality, thus he was unable to name one that is most like him in real life.

Like earlier at his press conference, he also mentioned his plan to take on a new project, which could be a movie or another drama series. Nonetheless, his focus would be on completing his fan meeting in Asia for now.

Dong Wook oppa also shared some daily photos of him and there was one that got the crowd going “Awwww”… It was definitely one with Daebak.

When asked what kind of dad would he be, he pondered for a moment and said that he thinks he would make a great dad.

He hoped that he would be able to just bring his children out on trips and play with them. However, since he is a celebrity, he is worried that his family would feel uncomfortable if people recognise him or them on the streets. He isn’t too sure what would happen but once he has his own children, he will let everyone know.

Well, one thing we know for sure, he’s gonna be a very suave looking dad, who will turn heads on the streets. It’s hard to miss him out. We can also possibly imagine cute big-eyed kids who look like him.

The one segment that had everyone super hyped up and roaring into laughter was definitely the “photo taking” segment.

5 fans were handpicked by Dong Wook oppa (though he was lamenting why some of those numbers that he called were not at their seats) to re-enact some classic poses in his dramas and that was pretty much skinship for some of the lucky ladies.

Poses such as leaning on his chest, in his big trench coat or being carried by him in a 公主抱 manner, looking at him right in the eye with your hand on his face and the funniest one was the scene whereby both Goblin and Grim Reaper walked side by side through the underpass with plastic bags of groceries such as leek in their hands.

We felt sad for the fan since this was one with no skinship and no interaction. Nonetheless, everyone had a good time laughing and rooting for all the lucky winners.

We bet Dong Wook oppa felt happy to have granted his fans’ innermost wishes as well. There was a hug for everyone who went on stage.

There was also the “Grant your wishes” segment for fans who wrote in their requests of wishes. Some managed to get a hug or photo with the heartthrob, while one asked for him to record his voice as a “wake up alarm” for her. So he recorded one asking her to wake up and raise his voice towards the end, so that it would startle her up but we feel, she would still be happily in dreamland having heard his voice the first thing she wakes up every day.

There was also this fan who requested to play a game with him and if he lost the game, he needs to grant her a wish and sing her a song and give her a hug. However, if she lost the game, she would sing him a song. Though he lost the game to her deliberately, Ah Ken asked the lucky fan to also sing in return. There we had a very melodious duet going on. She also earned a hug and more “stage” time than the rest. It must have been a very memorable day for her.

Dear Fans, now you know what to do next time your favourite oppa comes for a fan meet. =P

There was a segment whereby some fans recorded videos of themselves re-enacting the “parodies” of the infamous drama scenes from Goblin.

It was pretty hilarious and indeed very creative of the fans. It had Dong Wook oppa grinning from ear to ear and exclaiming that they were really awesome.

One winner was chosen and she was granted a chance to have a 5 min date with him on stage. Awww, after so much time and effort spent, we thought that she should deserve a one-to-one date off screen. Nevertheless, we were pretty sure she didn’t mind that, just that she was too nervous and didn’t quite know what to ask him.

Towards the end, Dong Wook oppa serenaded fans with “My Time Towards You”, one song that he sang for his previous drama “Bubblegum”. There was a little incident whereby the confetti was spraying at full force and it was so loud that he couldn’t focus on singing a love ballad. He broke out laughing and tried very hard to get back into the mood by closing his eyes when singing.

Nonetheless, how would the fans let him leave without him dancing to a little of “TT”?

He felt awkward but relented to just doing a short snip of the dance. Well, his most awkward pose happens to be my most favourite photo.

Maybe he felt that it’s embarrassing for a 36-year-old to be doing acting and has quite a bit of 偶像包袱.

Once again, he thanked his fans for coming to meet him and playfully kept waving his hand even when he was behind the “screen”.

The fan meet ended with the “wefie” that Dong Wook oppa took with the fans earlier at the event.

After thoughts:

Well, it’s sad that I missed his hand for a hand shake when he walked up and down the aisle twice while singing a song for everyone.

I also almost missed him again when we went out of the hall for the “Hi 5” session. There were numerous staff crowding around and the queue was going so fast, we almost did not see him behind the table on our way out. He was bending so low at the table and I had to back track haha.. All I heard was a “Pang Ga Sum Nida” (Nice to meet you in Korean) and a soft Hi-5 and that was it.

Well, maybe we could have at least 5 seconds each.

Overall, we do feel that the event could be better organised in terms of the arrangements for Hi-5, photo taking opportunity, etc.

He may not be the type of very outgoing and fun guy to be with during his Fan meet, but I guess his fans would still be happy that they managed to see him up front.

And yes, he is really handsome.

We hope he will make his appearance in Singapore again, soon.
