Park Bo Gum “Oh Happy Day” Singapore Fan Meet – 18 Feb 2017

While I may not be a fan of Park Bo Gum, it just daunted on me that maybe I should attend his fan meet since we have heard a lot about what a nice and well mannered guy he is plus his fan service is awesome.

Sincerity can be felt and you know when it’s not faked. What is so different about Park Bo Gum Dong Saeng’s fan meet is not just because his fan service is excellent, but u can tell he enjoyed what he was doing.

He’s a very down-to-earth, bubbly, cheeky, warm, & positive guy. 简直就是个 “小暖男”

He was heavily involved in the planning, ideas & execution of the fan meet. It is not just a job to him, but he also felt that his fans are important. More importantly, he didn’t set himself to be high and mighty but just like any other ordinary guy, equal to everyone else present.

When you don’t set a barrier between yourself and others, people will feel the warmth and will open up to you more. I am very sure, everyone present could feel it.

He was there since 10am till 4pm for rehearsal and fan meet from 6pm to almost 12 midnight. Is he not hardworking and trying to make everyone’s money spent worthwhile?

It really changed my view on Korean celebrities. There’s always a barrier between them, the media and their fans, which u don’t understand why there’s a need to. Maybe the younger generation like Park Bo Gum is different, he welcomes his fans with open arms. He made effort to speak in English sometimes and he’s good at learning new words in Mandarin, dialects etc.

He was nice to his crew, host Jun Wei, translator and all too. I think Junwei did a very good job. He’s also quite humorous and the translator did the translation well too though sometimes Park Bo Gum will start answering before Junwei could finish asking his questions.

Fans would know that he actually takes public transport to work as well. He’s someone with totally no airs and even when he is on stage with fans, he would give them warm hugs, everyone of them. We heard about him being well mannered, doesn’t scold vulgarities, doesn’t smoke and treats everyone nicely. And we had witnessed it for ourselves at the fan meet.

I’m sure his fans must have felt so overwhelmed with the gush of love from Bo Gummy. If Noona were 10 years younger, I would surely go head over heels too.

Though some of the segments such as cooking for fans is not something out of the norm, it is more of the sincerity that distinguishes him from many others.

Thus far, I think So Ji Sub and Kim Soo Hyun’s fan meets were the more sincere one. Now with Park Bo Gum into the addition, his could probably be rated the most sincere fan meet I have been to.

He played the piano and sang a couple of songs such as “My Person from “Love in the Moonlight” and “Don’t Worry, Dear from “Reply 1998”.

Sweet Things that he have done, though some of the segments were common:

– He went sight seeing the day before and took many photos so that he could share it exclusively at his SG fan meet

– He asked all fans who got selected to stand up so that he could see them. He also asked for their names, be it the fans coming up for games or if he was just going to give them freebies from far away

– He actually thanked fans for sending in interesting & refreshing requests. The fan was asked to stand near the barricade so he could fly the paper aeroplane to her. He asked for her name, wrote some personalised message and signed his name.

– There was another request for a Birthday song. He played the song  on the piano and addressed it to a lady sitting at my block. We were far far up on Level 2, so he requested her to stand up while he sang for her. Awww, this is what we call “Sweet Die” in Singlish.

– He re-enacted 5 romantic scenes with fans and took polaroids. All 5 lucky winners had a good amount of “skinship” and left the stage very satisfied.

– He asked everyone to get up on their feet to join in the song “Bombastic” and do the dance.

– He walked in through the aisle while singing “Singapura”, a song specially dedicated to Singapore fans

– He made some food for a lucky fan. Though she mentioned that the food was so-so (normal), he was still very nice to autograph on the apron for her.

– At the finale, he read out loud a letter that he dedicated to Singapore fans. He mentioned that through his brief walk down the aisles, he saw this fan who gave him a very warm smile that gave him a lasting impression and he wanted to give this penned letter to her. He was searching for her on stage, vaguely remembered what she wore and where she sat. Nobody owned up but he said he would make sure he passes the letter to her during the Hi-Touch session.

That was something that left a deep impression in me. Most people would usually not bother to see where the fan is sitting and search all till so detailed.  It wasn’t acting. It was all very sincere. It does tug at your heartstrings a little. He’s just such a sweet, young lad. It’s of no surprise why so many people like him.

– Typically, he doesn’t say no to any requests, provided it’s not too over.

– During the game segment with Song Joong Ki, he would also hug those fans who were not on his team. Those fans were already making their way down the stage but he ran over to hug them.

As a senbei, Song Joong Ki was kind enough to come and give him support. He was there for almost 1 hour.  He was all ready to take selfies with his teammates.

He is cheeky and funny but he probably has more “idol burden” than Park Bo Gum. Bo Gummy was just comfortable being himself, which is a good thing. It draws people to him.

It didn’t matter when the fans screamed louder for Song Joong Ki. For a moment, you couldn’t help but wonder, were the people there for Song Joong Ki instead?

There’s very strong friendship and “Bromance” between the 2 of them. If you remember the scene whereby the both of them cried when Bo Gum received the Male Top Excellence Award in 2016 at the KBS Drama Awards, he thanked Song Joong Ki for his support while he was filming “Love in the Moonlight”.

– The 2 guys made some play doh “roosters” for fans since it is the year of the rooster. There was a little of the scene from “Ghost” when Park Bo Gum was trying to pinch the play doh while Song Joong Ki was behind his back holding his hands. That was hilarious.

– The longest fan meet I have ever been to – 3 hours, and a 1.5 to 2 hour Hi-Touch session for all 3,000 audience present.

So, how does Park Bo Gum look close up?

He looks quite good close up, very tall, has very nice eyes. He said “Thank you for coming” to everyone. I returned with a “Take Care”. He was a little startled but understood the meaning, nodded and smiled. “Take Care” is what I want to say to someone who is working so hard.

He had been there for rehearsal from 10am to 4pm when fan meet was only supposed to start at 6pm and it dragged all the way till near mid night.

It’s the kind of energy, positivity, bubbly, warm nature that will draw you to him. You know, the type of Dong Saeng that you feel like giving him a pat on the back to tell him that he has done a very awesome job.

I guess he understands this logic very well that if you want others to open up to you, you need to do it first.

Whether u do it for the sake of doing and whether u do it cos u sincerely like and want to do it, is different.

I like people who are sincere, genuine and full of positive energy.

He’s indeed very lovable.

Oh yes, not forgetting the freebies we got from the FM.

There was a free poster, postcard with message for the  fans, Hi-5 for everyone present.

Thank you, for such a wonderful and sincere fan meet.

Sincerity can really be felt.

Continue being real & the hardworking boy.

Bogummy, Fighting!
