We had an “Oh! Happy Day” with Park Bo Gum back in 2017, when we were moved by his excellent fan service and sincerity.

We’re thrilled to have him back to endow us with a “Good Day” in 2019.

It was a fabulously “Good Day”, whereby our hearts were filled to the brim by his altruistic nature. He’s not just a “precious sword”, but also a very “rare gem”.

What didn’t change is his humble, down-to-earth, sincere and genuine demeanor. It’s in your guts to be able to distinguish a sincere person immediately. You can tell he had wholeheartedly put in effort to spend an enjoyable and memorable day with his adorers.

While the game segments were cut down to accommodate a longer sing-and-dance session, the ever generous Bogummy still gifted many lucky fans with autographed items. He’s still as cheeky, bubbly, smiley, energetic, sweet, hardworking and emits positive vibes to everyone around him. We love a true gentleman who is so ever warm-hearted.

Decked in checkered brown suit and his megawatt smile, the hall crooned with cheers and applause while he started the FM with DAY6’s “I Like You”. He chose “May Your Everyday be a Good Day” as his 2nd FM theme because he felt that any moment spent together with his fans, is a GOOD day. Ah Ken praised Bogummy to be a very hardworking guy who took his rehearsals seriously and diligently practised every song on the list.

We vividly remembered him playing the piano and singing a BD song for a fan whose birthday happened to fall on the day of the FM. He did it again this year for all the birthday babies. This guy is never a facade.
He earnestly felt the fans deserved a BD song since they spent their important day with him, instead of their loved ones.

When asked how he acted out the cute “drunk scene” in “Encounter” since he doesn’t drink alcohol in real life, he expressed that it was just a feeling. He had sung for his friends over the phone like Jin Hyuk did in “Encounter”. He was in deep thoughts, revisiting his memories to recall the exact songs or scenarios. It was an adorably cute moment of silence. He is so unpretentious, even when it comes to giving responses.

The “Catch Up with Encounter” segment was the most heart palpitating. 3 lucky fans had the “Encounter” of their lifetime and re-enacted scenes with Park Bo Gum. Be it Bogummy putting scarf around their neck, taking a wefie or a backhug, these drew zealous screams from the crowd.

There was a table stacked full of autographed merchandises and personal items, such as calendars, sports shoes, clothes similar to those he had worn during filming and the hat he got from USS. He’s an endearing Santa Claus. It doesn’t have to be December to be the season of giving. Park Bo Gum makes you feel loved the whole year round!

The candle making segment opened our horizons to how he is like in real life – a perfectionist with some OCD traits.

Blue sand was chosen as it reminded him of the blue sky in Singapore, a lion figure which represents “Lion City”, five white stars and a heart shape that embodies his love for his fans.

He tried to ensure that the sand was leveled as flat as possible. We could hear amusing “cartoon” noises like “argh”, “wraahhh”, “hmmmphh”, “grrrr” when he couldn’t have the lion figurine standing on the sand after several failed attempts. It came to a point when he was so displeased and frustrated with his creations that he removed everything from the bottle, just to smoothen out the sand!

His seriousness & OCD in ensuring the D.I.Y Singapore candle was “perfect”, was a hilariously comical moment when he insisted the creation had to be pretty.

This did not deter Bogummy in making a “perfect” gift. He does not condone slip shod work and wanted the best for his fans.

This is not just an idol’s sweet and heartfelt way of reciprocating his devotees’ love, but also an act of his LOVE for them.

There were soulful renditions to ballads such as IU’s “Through the Night”, G.O.D’s “One Candle”, his previous dramas OST tracks, such as “Always Be with You”, “My Person” & “Swallowing My Heart”.

The atmosphere took a switch to being lively and chirpy when he began grooving to a 80s style hit, “Honey” from JYP. It cracked us up to see his hilarious and cheeky expressions while dancing to upbeat tunes such as TWICE’s “What is Love”, SEVENTEEN’s “Pretty You” & PSY’s “Entertainer”.

This isn’t something we expect from someone who’s usually so reserved. Getting audience to groove on their feet and “mocking” at them later for being “bad dancers”, was a “prank” that he totally enjoyed. He was absolutely delighted to see the audience being entertained.

The gracious actor walked down the aisles a few times to get up-close with the audience, distributing autographed rubber balls. Regardless the price you paid for the ticket, he ensured that no one was being left out.
He did not merely amuse us, but also touched us in many ways.

The climax of the night would undeniably be the moment when he sat by a black piano and began playing and singing along to JJ Lin’s “修炼爱情/Practice Love”。While he fumbled along the way with the lyrics, it was such a commendable effort that it had the audience cheering and singing aloud to help him with it. He totally awed us with this delightful surprise. The cheers and applause was the loudest at this magical moment. It was a heartwarming mass sing-along session.

He ended the night with Deul Guk Hwa’s “Blessing”, thanked the fans for being with him and wished all to be well and healthy, with the promise to reciprocate with better works.

While going through the Hi-5 session, he was tirelessly thanking everyone with a smile. I said a “Thank You”, while he greeted me with a very energetic “BYE”!

That positive energy is indeed infectious and his FMs would always top the 1st few on my ranking charts.

It’s certainly true that he draws his energy from his devotees’ love; for there wasn’t an instance he showed his weariness.

As if giving out autographed items, wefies, big hugs, dancing and singing weren’t enough to prove his love, he gave everyone a “love letter” and a Hi-5 too.

Just what would he not do to make his fans smile?

Just like the official light stick that he designed, he has a pair of invisible angel wings on his back. He stays very much rooted to his humble beginnings and never once forgets to live each day to the fullest and treats everyone the best that he can.

Our hearts are full because of you, Bogummy. Your heart is BIG and you showed us how generous and giving someone can be. These thoughts and gestures are the best presents you can “gift” anyone.

It wasn’t just a good day, but an unforgettable one.Read More →

Whatever controversies have been plaguing him recently, did not affect Seungri’s performance at his first solo concert – The Great Seungri Tour in Singapore. Or rather, he didn’t let it show. The moment artistes stand on stage, they have to cast their personal lives and feelings aside, because their biggest mission, is to put in their best for the performance.

“The Seungri Show” was not just a showcase of songs from Seungri’s first full solo album and a medley of Big Bang’s greatest hits, but also truly a GAG Show.

Big Bang’s maknae was utmost entertaining, from talking about how Singaporeans are, to digging at all the funny hairstyles or images Big Bang had. Seungri is humorous and spares no one with his lashing tongue, including his hyungs & himself. He’s definitely the 毒舌 of Big Bang. He could possibly just rant on and on for hours.

Since it was Seungri’s last time in SG before military enlistment, the fans were so fervent that Seungri had mentioned at least 3 times that they are MAD. The stage setup was fairly pared down compared to the usual “luxury” they had for Big Bang concerts.

While there has been an outrage from VIPs that Seungri was given lackluster treatment as he was only allocated 2 dancers, it proves that you do not need a big stage, fanciful costumes, many effects or dancers, if you have what it takes.

Seungri is an all-rounded entertainer who can hold his solo stage.

He quipped that he fought for the job himself and shrugged it off, saying “ That’s Life””. He’s a doer, a go-getter & someone with initiative & zest. He doesn’t wait for things to happen, because he would ensure that he makes them happen.

The show commenced with “Bang Bang Bang”, which got the audience on their feet. It was most SHIOK grooving to all the party hits since it’s been sometime since we “exercised” during concerts in Singapore.
He also performed new tracks from his “The Great Seungri Album” such as “Where are you from”, “1,2,3”, “Mollado” and older solo classics like “Let’s Talk About Love”, “Gotta Talk to You”, “Alone”, “GG Be” ,” Strong baby”.
For this stop in Singapore, he sang one of his most favourite Jay Chou’s ballads, “最长的电影”.

The fans were reacting in their most fervent ways, such as shouting responses to all that he did or asked and he was a little taken aback. He quipped as a matter-of-factly “I know you guys are upset with me, but Singaporeans are mad & easily upset!”. He literally got us laughing like mad and almost having stomach cramps.

He even tested the lightings, stage effects, woofers to show that he still has some quality production for his solo show. Seungri definitely qualifies to be one of the best sales persons in town.

Initially, there was some worry that the audience would be a little reserved, but HEY, the response was overwhelming, just like we were in the midst of a mini Big Bang concert.

Having been to Singapore countless, he flaunted his very localized “Singlish” accent throughout the gig, self-proclaiming that he has the BEST Singlish accent among Korean artistes.
Undoubtedly, Seungri has the best language proficiency in Big Bang. He can speak English, Korean, Chinese and is currently learning Cantonese. He needed no translator for his solo gig and was conversing in English and Chinese throughout.

With all the controversies going on, Seungri joked that he enjoys rumours. From an artiste’s perspective, if people still bother to spread rumours about you, it means you are still popular and being loved.

This guy is SAVAGE. Not many boy bands would dare to google “What does it take to look like Big Bang” and revealing all these hilarious photos. He murmured that he is 超级老了. He can’t imagine when all Big Bang members perform as a group again on stage, they would be in their mid 30s, becoming 老 Big Bang.

He did not understand why Big Bang has always had this “bad boy” image, but also gleefully pointed out that the group released a track “Bad Boy” in 2014, while GD and Taeyang had another single “Good Boy” just another year later. He may not know if he’s considered a “good boy” or “bad boy”, but we would say he is no doubt a play(ful) boy!

The atmosphere got even better when Seungri started belting out more of Big Bang’s greatest hits. “Haru Haru”, “Lies” brought back many memories and goosebumps. “We like to Party”, “My Heaven”, “Hands Up” , “1,2,3”, “Bae Bae”, “Good Boy” and “Fantastic Baby” are definitely no stranger to all present.

“Flower Road” had VIPs tearing up since it was the farewell song for Big Bang before the group is now on hiatus due to military enlistment. The hall was a beautiful sea of yellow crowns and white lights when he delivered a soulful version of Taeyang’s “Eyes, Nose Lips”. Sometimes, all the artistes needed would be their fans quietly supporting below the stage in this manner.

Fans held up banners that read a simple but powerful message “I’ll stay with you”. This means a lot to Seungri, especially in a trying time like this.

He quipped towards the ending that “You guys can stay with me because I’m not a bad guy”. It was like a mini appeal for fans to trust in him (despite all the controversies) and for them to continue supporting the group.

It is a two-way street between artistes and their fans. It is not about celebrating your idol’s success when they are popular, but also accompanying them and be the most quiet but strong support during their low periods. The VIPs have shown their prowess in this area through these 13 years.

Even up till the finale, Seungri showed that he had his Singapore VIPs in his heart, not just by taking out our nation’s flag, but also professing his love & gratitude for VIPs’ undying support & love.

He promised that he would not get fatter or uglier during his enlistment, but would become more “Shuai” aka Handsome, and for the VIPs to wait for Big Bang’s return.

No matter how scaled down in production this was, we could feel his earnest sincerity in preparing this solo concert. Our hearts also cringed a little while he shared all he has been going through in a light-hearted manner and brushing off all the bad vibes, to give us a wonderful and cheerful performance.

We hope that all would be cleared soon and that Seungri can have a safe 2 years during his military service. We’d love to see the funny maknae back with his hyungs in 2020!Read More →

BLΛƆKPIИK is a force to be reckoned with.

With only 9 Korean singles (+1 song collaboration with Dua Lipa) & 1 Japanese studio album on their discography, these lasses have swept up a storm in Asia and are now stirring a hurricane in the United States.

The quartet showcased spectacular showmanship and remarkable energy, lashing out hit after hit with their high-octane vocals & impressive dance grooves at their 1st sold-out SG concert, to a 9500-strong crowd.

Decked in shimmery pink outfits and white knee-length boots, the quartet blew the audience away with the immensely popular “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”.

SG BLINKS’ response was more than overwhelming with the resounding roars of cheers. The quartet was greeted by thunderous cheers & hoot calls, bobbing pink heart-shaped light sticks, with fans singing aloud to their dance hits, shouting fan chants as these lasses lapped it up with their energetic, sexy, feisty dance moves.

Their vocals are entrancing, dance moves bewitching. You will find yourself grooving along with the infectious rhythm of the songs.

Indoor Stadium was filled with fervent BLINKS of all ages, many clad in BLACKPINK Official Tees, holding placards to honour the arrival of their Queens.

The general association of pink is demure & feminine, while black amps up the fiercely cool images with a tinge of suaveness. Black is bold & distinctive, which perfectly sums up how these girls create a unique style, amidst the cutesy-girl-groups-dominated KPOP scene.

Their appeal lies in their dominant, distinctive flavor – flaming hot like chili, yet (not overly) sweet like dark chocolate-coated strawberry. It’s no easy feat to be different, while maintaining a strong foothold. These girls have fiercely dominated music charts since.

There is an uncanny resemblance between 2NE1 & BLACKPINK, in terms of their hip hop, funk & pop music genre & members’ international backgrounds. To avoid being labelled as “2NE1 Version 2.0”, BLACKPINK needs more original songs to distinguish themselves.

What’s lacking is the number of songs to uphold a barely 2-hour long concert. While it’s not uncommon for YG artistes to repeat songs for Encore, we sincerely wished a deserving girl group like BLACKPINK, can have more songs to call their own.

These ladies have unleashed their potential and versatility, to grow into something bigger in the music industry. They can carry off sexy, edgy, punk, clubbing or dance tunes but at the same time also being cutie pies & sweethearts.

BLACKPINK’s dance choreographies are not overly provocative, done with a tasteful demeanor that both male & female audiences would find it attractive and alluring. They were brimming with comfort & confidence on stage.

They shone even in their solo performances. Jisoo showed her prowess with a powerful rendition of Zedd’s ‘Clarity’, Lisa slay as she twisted and swayed her way to MISO’s ‘Take Me’ and Jason Derulo’s ‘Swalla’, Rosé performed a lovely medley of The Beatles’ “Let It Be”, Park Bom’s “You And I” and Taeyang’s “Only Look At Me”, while Jennie rocked the stage with “SOLO”.

Their vibrant, exuberant, youthful energy can be felt and transmitted to all present. Such is youth and living your dreams.

The members spoke of their excitement to be in SG for their very 1st concert. The very thoughtful Rosé assured that they could see everyone and hope that fans would stay safe. Jennie expressed her wish for fans to put down their phones, so that they can enjoy the concert and see one another’s faces.

Jisoo proclaimed her love for our famous Chili Crab. Rosé suggested for the big crowd to do a Mexican wave, which they gladly obliged. BLINKS also sang a surprise BD song for Rosé whose birthday was on 11 February.

After watching Jisoo perform Zedd’s “Clarity”, you would agree that her slightly husky voice is pretty sexy & alluring.

Lisa the “Dance Queen” was feisty & sassy with her enchanting dance moves & sleek punches. That overflowing sense of confidence in owning the stage and capturing all of the audience’s attention.

Rosé’s distinctive honey, sweet voice allows one to distinguish her quite easily. She’s got a demure & gentle disposition. Listening to her sing was an enjoyable heart & mind soothing process.

Jennie the fashionista, exudes a very cool “icy princess” image, but swoons many with her adorable smiles and strong stage presence.

We do not need something too polished from BLACKPINK at the moment, such as Mariah Carey’s high-octaves dolphin pitch range. They are awesome as it is for their maiden concert.

We look forward to new tracks with stronger BLACKPINK flavor & a more “complete” world tour.

There’s no reason why these ladies with high-spirited performances, zestful vigor and distinctive stage presence, would not sell out albums or concerts.

So here they are, to take the world, step by step.

Make way cutesy girl groups, the BLACKPINK era has arrived.

It makes one ponder in anticipation, which is the next card they would play?Read More →

I may be slow to jump onto this journey to the past with “Go Back Couple”, but it’s better late than never. It’s a 温馨小品 that you should watch, or even re-watch since it relates so closely to our daily lives.

A trip back to 18 years ago could be nostalgic, but it also brings back bittersweet memories.

This drama is not just about dealing with marriages, but all your interpersonal relationships. It’s about every aspect of life, the rationale behind your decisions and their consequences, youth, first loves, growing up, dreams, passion, etc. It makes you reflect and laugh at the same time.

I’m not a fan of drama themes with going back to the past or future, for the ending is definitely about parting and returning to where they belong. You can relate well to the drama because of real life struggles that we face in our 30s, the many regrets and “What If”s in life. Traveling back in time allows the leads to revisit, mend or rekindle relationships with their family members and friends in the past.

If you like 那些年 or 我的少女时代, you should like this too. I like how they go back to the past and look the same as they were in their 20s but with a more matured mind set of a 38-year old. You would laugh at yourself for all the silly things you did when you were in your 20s.

The breaking point of their relationship is the death of Jin Joo’s mother. It is a painful void that cannot be erased from their hearts.

I like how the story started with the wedding ceremony that was so sweet & comical, for we know the “happily ever after” in romance comedies don’t exist in reality.

Jang Nara still looks quite pretty and youthful, though she made herself look like a shagged housewife. She portrayed the agonizing parts about being a mid 30s housewife vs a 20-year old college student very well. Son Ho Jun is very comical but he can also make you tear with some of his more somber moments.

They both experienced heart thumping moments again when they met their first loves back in varsity days. Well, it does take you on a memory lane.
Their chemistry is very much on point, not overly dramatic or lacking. They are definitely a “make-believe” couple that we see in our daily lives.

After being together for 18 years, they lost the passion and took things for granted. They tried to avoid each other at all costs when they returned to the past, but they eventually realized they still love and care for each other.

Jang Ki Young did a pretty good job too. It’s a 10 yrs difference between him & Jang Nara. You fully understand why Jang Nara thanked him at the awards for being able to look at her like a college girl.
Love is never about the conditions or how well someone treats you. It has to be something reciprocal.

My Heart Will Go On”,还有1999年的”世界末日”论。

The carefree days when you could just go BBQ, camping and have fun with your friends.

It’s a chance for them to regain those feelings they had when they were younger, so that they understand why they did what they did.

The scenes on how she tried to make up for the lost time and cherished every single moment and create more memories with her mum, would grip your hearts. The final scene when they bade farewell and her mum finding out that she came from the future, was heart breaking enough to make me tear nonstop at 3am.

Communication is the key to any relationship.

不是所有事情都 comes in a package.

This is a heartwarming drama, which gives us some important life lesson. The script is meaningful; the main and supporting cast delivered their roles well with good chemistry. It gives you a warm feeling after watching the entire drama.

Read More →
